STEVE CERTA

DISTRICT 7950

Steve joined Rotary in 1994, was elected to the Board of Directors in 1996 and served as President for the Rotary year 2003-04.  He was honored by the Weymouth Club with a Paul Harris in 2004.  He received his second Paul Harris for his Every Rotarian Every Year contribution in 2012.
 
Steve served as committee chair and member of the following committees: Car Raffle, International, Italian Night, Million Dollar Meal and Paul Harris Fellow. Co-Chair the District 7950 Conference 2013.
 
In 2005 Steve was instructed by the club’s president to find the Club’s first International Project. Steve became aware of Safe Passage, a program working with the children and families who live and work in the Guatemala City Dump. In 2006 Steve organized the first Volunteer Support Team consisting of Interact students, teachers and Rotarians. Since then Steve and the Weymouth Club have sponsored six Interact Support Team visits and four adult visits to Guatemala.
 
In 2013 Steve and The Weymouth Club received a District Simplified Matching Grant to purchase and install a solar hot water system and a commercial grade dish washer for the children in the pre-school program of Safe Passage. 
 
In 2015 the Weymouth International Committee received a Global Grant to fund curriculum development and teacher training for Safe Passage.

 
Personal Life

Steve Certa married to Paula for 43 years, daughter Bethany 37, Mother of two and a nurse practitioner/midwife working in Sacramento CA. Resident of Hingham, MA for 40 years. 
 

Professional Life

Steve graduated from New York State University College at Oswego in 1973 and   started his professional career as a Scituate High School woodworking teacher. While teaching, working after school, weekends and summer vacations, Steve focused on the repair of insect and moisture related damage to residential homes. He became licensed and insured to use pesticides as part of the home repair service.  In 1980 Massachusetts passed “Prop 2½” and as a result, Steve’s teaching position was eliminated. This event was the catalyst that caused Steve to devote his full time energies to the growth of Watch All, Inc. Following his stated goal from 1981 with 70 full time employees, on March 1, 2008 Watch All was sold to JC Ehrlich Co. Inc., as the New England Service area for Rentokil North America. Steve continued to oversee the successful merge of companies until December 2013.  
 
During his professional career, Steve was a very active Member, Director, Past-President and Government Affairs Chair for the New England Pest Management Association, served three terms as Regional Director for the National Pest Management Association, served on the Board of the South Shore Woman’s Business Network, was a Corporate Advisor for the Hingham Symphony Orchestra, still is an active fundraiser for the Mass Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, was on the Board of Incorporators for the Weymouth Bank, served as Government Affairs Committee member and Director for the South Shore Chamber of Commerce.
