project:
Thermal Imager for Niantic Fire Dept (NFD) NFD approached Niantic Rotary for assistance in purchasing a thermal imager. This device allows detection of “hot spots” inside a closed building without sending fire fighters inside. Our Club donated $3600 for the project and NFD added 3000 more. With this seed money, town citizens and businesses were solicited. The project was so well received that sufficient funds were raised to purchase two imagers at $15,000 apiece. The second imager was given to Flanders Fire Dept, the other dept serving the town of East Lyme.

project:
Student-of-the-Month At the first meeting of each month, the club invites the student-of-the-month from East Lyme High School for recognition. The student is selected by the high school dept faculty. The award is given to a student in a different dept each month. At each meeting, the Club representative introduces the teacher representing the dept who, in turn, introduces the student. In addition to the recognition, the student receives $50 in cash. Naturally, the teacher and the student get a free meal and a personal look at a Niantic Rotary Club meeting. (An educational experience in itself) At our June meeting we invite all past winners for the year and their parents and a teacher for another recognition extravaganza. These luncheons are a very cost effective way to establish good relations with the high school community. Normally, there is newspaper coverage of these awards.

Rotary Child Passport ID program
The program is intended to assist parents of children who are missing for whatever reason. It provides a handy reference on their child to give to police or other rescue organizations to aid in the search for a missing child.
The program provides the parents with a KIdKare ID passport, including a head and shoulders photo of the child, a description including weight, height, age and other pertinent information such as illnesses or required medications. The passport includes 800 numbers on missing child help organizations with instructions on what to do in the event that a child is missing. In Hamden, the program is done in co-operation with McDonalds restaurants and Toys-R-us. It can be done with 5 to 8 Rotarians, in 2-4 hours on a weeknight or Saturday morning. It requires a Polaroid camera that comes with the KidKare kit from Polaroid and a scale. It is fun for all concerned and a wonderful community service.

project:
Exemplary Worker Breakfast has become an annual event for the Bridgeport Sunrise Club. It is primarily a Vocational Service event which generates a small profit. Bridgeport business, educational institutions and other organizations are invited to the breakfast by the Sunrise Club to honor their exemplary worker(s). The workers honored have consistently demonstrated a commitment to job excellence, enhance the daily operations of the organization and who are role models for other employees. These individuals are “unsung heroes” who can be relied on day in and day out, year after year to keep the organization functioning efficiently and smoothly. This has proved to be a very positive worthwhile event for all participates.
